ALS, the incurable disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rapidly progressive, incurable neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. As many as 30,000 Americans have ALS, and an estimated 5,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with the disease each year. There is no known cause of the disease.

On Monday, April 14, 2008 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm SaVes4ALS will be holding a fundraising event with the goal of purchasing a handicapped accessible van for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter.

SaVes4ALS Mission

Every SaVes4ALS event raises donations that help patients and families throughout the region cope with the day-to-day challenges of living with the disease. The goal of "The Dining and Dancing with the Stars" event is to raise funds to purchase a handicapped accessible van for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter. The ALS Iron Horse Express will be used to help transport patients to clinic appointments and other quality of life needs.

About The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association

The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association provides support and resources for ALS patients, their families and caregivers living in the eastern half of Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. In 2007, the Greater Philadelphia Chapter was recognized with The ALS Association’s MVP award for its comprehensive patient programs and its extensive fundraising activities, which make it the largest and most active chapter in the U.S.
