In 2010, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey launched Horizon Healthcare Innovations, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary, to transform the healthcare delivery system to one of higher quality and more effective care, greater collaboration and efficiency, and increased affordability. Commercial Agreements with Geisinger Medical Center Expiring
Highmark Blue Shield's agreements with Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Clinic physicians will expire on December 31, 2010. The two organizations began discussions on a new contract and payment terms several months ago, but have not reached an agreement. Though Highmark Blue Shield has offered to extend the current agreement for an additional 90 days in order to try and minimize the impact on members and allow for additional time to negotiate, Geisinger has refused.
