Missing this deadline can affect your bottom line…
Reminder: Small plans (those with annual receipts of $5 million or less) that issued their initial privacy notice by the April 14, 2004 deadline, it's now time to send the reminder notice!
By April 14, 2007 you must notify enrollees about the availability and how to obtain a copy of the HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. Failure to comply can results in fines of up to $25,000.
WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOU
You may satisfy this requirement in a number of ways, including:
- Sending a copy of the Notice of Privacy Practices to your employees.
- Mailing only a reminder concerning the availability of the Notice of Privacy Practices and information on how to obtain a copy.
- Including in a plan-produced newsletter or other publication information about the availability of the Notice of Privacy Practices and how to obtain a copy.
