United States Department of Labor EBSA Releases Sample Notices for the COBRA Subsidy Extension

On December 21, 2009, President Barak Obama signed a bill that will extend the original federal COBRA subsidy created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which was enacted in February 2009.

ARRA, as amended by the Department of Defense Appropriation Act, 2010 (2010 DoDAA), mandates that plans notify certain current and former participants and beneficiaries about the premium reduction.

WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOU AS AN EMPLOYER?
The Department of Labor EBSA created model notices to help plans and individuals comply with these requirements. Each model notice is designed for a particular group of qualified beneficiaries and contains information to help satisfy ARRA's notice provisions, including those added by the 2010 DoDAA.
