Effective July 9, 2007, Jersey City Medical Center will no longer be a Horizon BCBSNJ network hospital. As such, Horizon BCBSNJ is working with their large network of hospitals and physicians to minimize the disruption you and your employees will see as a result of this decision.
HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU AS AN EMPLOYER
Please review and forward the employee version of this communication to your employees to inform them of how this hospital network change will affect them. Their choice of facility will affect both the costs they are personally responsible for as well as the costs your organization will absorb.
Q: How does this change affect my benefits?
A: You have the same basic health plan benefits. Horizon HMO and Horizon Medicare Blue Value Plus members, however, receive non-emergency hospital coverage only when they use hospitals in the Horizon Hospital Network.
Horizon POS, Horizon Direct Access, Horizon PPO, Horizon Medicare Blue, Horizon Medicare Blue Plus and other Horizon BCBSNJ members incur lower out-of-pocket costs and realize maximum coverage benefits by using the Horizon Hospital Network
Q: What should my employees do in a medical emergency?
A: In case of a medical emergency, your employees should go to the nearest emergency facility, without worrying about network affiliations.
Q: What do my employees do if they are currently receiving treatment at Jersey City Medical Center?
A: If your employees are receiving treatment at Jersey City Medical Center, they can continue medically necessary treatment for up to four months past the contract termination date of March 9, 2007.
Q: How can my employees find out about other hospitals in the network?
A: Your employees have a choice of network hospitals throughout New Jersey

Q: When does this change take effect?
A: Jersey City Medical Center terminated its hospital contract with Horizon BCBSNJ, effective March 9, 2007. Under the terms of Horizon BCBSNJ’s contract with Jersey City Medical Center, the contract is extended for four months for Horizon HMO and Horizon Medicare Blue Plus, Horizon POS, Horizon Direct Access and Horizon PPO members as well as other Horizon BCBSNJ members through July 8, 2007. Therefore, these members can receive treatment at Jersey City Medical Center at an in-network level of benefits through July 8, 2007, as long as they obtain prior authorization when required.
