IBC Announces Select Drug Program Formulary Changes
 

Independence Blue Cross (IBC) has announced changes to their Select Drug Program formulary and updates to their safe prescribing procedures for narcotic drugs.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU AS AN EMPLOYER?
As a result of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee's review, effective April 1, 2009, IBC will be implementing the following changes:

  • Additions of generic drugs to the formulary
  • Additions and deletions of brand drugs to or from the formulary
  • Additions to IBC's list of drugs that require the doctor to obtain prior authorization

WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT?
To promote employee understand; make sure that your employees know to expect changes to the formulary. In addition, effective May 1, 2009, IBC will be making the following further changes to their safe prescribing procedures for narcotic drugs:

  • Expiration of prior authorizations
  • New quantity limits
  • Therapeutic drug class 30 day quantity limit
  • Expiration of quantity limit exception
